Task 1
Task 2:
Receptive: Phase 4. I feel like I can understand many spoken and written texts that we're given in class, but I can't understand everything and recognize many opinions and attitudes. I aim to improve by continuing to read new texts that will improve my skill in German.
Productive: Phase 2. I feel like I can mostly respond to questions that are asked and I can somewhat continue on conversations but I can't do much more than that. I aim to improve by speaking to family members that know German more often to get used to speaking fluently.
Interactive: Phase 5. I feel like I can adapt my sentences in order to fit the certain context of them. For example, I'm able to format sentences in order to speak in the past tense and in order to speak in a more formal tone. I aim to improve this by practicing many different contexts for speaking.

Task 3
I currently use English. I've studied Spanish and German, I can't communicate almost at all in Spanish anymore but I can communicate decently well in German. I struggle most with speaking with other people. My cultural background is German ancestry. I don't know much about my background, most of my family members were born and live in the United States. My biggest cultural influence is that of the United States. I've lived here my entire life and don't know much about any other cultures. My history with my language hasn't influenced my career path in any way that I can tell.
I will study German in the IBCP Language Development core because I've been studying it for the past 3 years and want to continue on with it. I don't think this selection will be too relevant to my career path since I doubt I'll have to speak in German very often. It will be challenging to continue on with my language development, especially since learning a language is very difficult. I'll just continue on with my language studying in order to meet these challenges. I don't know if I'll use my target language in the future. Some of my family members know it but we still talk in English, and I don't think I'll need it in my career path. Language study is important because it can help brain growth and academic achievement. It can also help you be more flexible in many career paths.
I don't think I belong in more than one culture because I only really know the American culture. In my culture, only really English is spoken. I believe that language helps shape culture and culture helps shape language. I have some extended family that live more in a German culture but I don't know them personally. I have no idea how they're similar and different. Different cultural experiences have affected me as a person by showing me the possible diversity in the world. In middle school especially there were so many cultures surrounding me and it opened my eyes to the world outside of my culture. Different cultures influence my industry by creating diversity. Industry can be changed by entering a new emerging country and new culture because the culture itself shapes the industry. Certain industries aren't necessary in certain cultures so they could be changed to fit the needs of the people.
